TSA or Transport Security Administration assigns the set of laws and regulations every transportation service provider has to stick to, to be a valid service provider. For an example a professional shipping company is entitled to stick on the laws and regulations that have to be followed to keep a known shipper status. The TSA visits the offices of freight forwarders on a monthly basis to ensure that they function    comply with the rules and regulations instituted by the TSA. If any company that desire to call as a professional freight forwarding company, they have to stick on these guidelines. The freight forwarder companies, which do not follow these rules, will be searching a new line of work. In earlier days, companies did not pay much attention to whether they had known shipper status or not, because it was actually a hassle to continue in comply with the TSA, now it is necessary.

You might notice, if you go to the airport lately, the surge in security measures enforced by the TSA at aerodrome. Obviously, the trickle down effort of this security is widely accepted for all aspects of airline travel.
